Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy Services

How do I know which therapy service is right for me?

As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Estupinian will conduct a comprehensive evaluation. At the end of your first appointment, she will discuss the possible path forward with you and provide a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

What should I expect during my first therapy session?

Before you arrive at the Los Gatos therapist office of Ginny Estupinian, PhD, you will be given access to the client portal.  In this portal, you can share your concerns confidentially with Dr. Estupinian.  You will also receive a couple of brief assessments to submit in the portal.  These items are then reviewed by Dr. Estupinian before your first session and prepared for your visit.

When you first speak with Dr. Estupinian, you will find a compassionate and nonjudgmental professional ready to listen to you and provide the answers you need to feel better.

How long does each therapy session last?

Each session is 50 minutes long.  Our sessions only occur on the hour. There are no half-hour sessions.

What if I need a more extended session?

This is an issue that you can discuss with Dr. Estupinian.  Usually, she recommends more frequent sessions rather than longer sessions.  Of course, each situation is unique, and Dr. Estupinian will tailor a solution specifically to your needs.

Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?

We offer both virtual and in-person sessions. As a client, you always have the option to switch from in-person to virtual meetings, depending on your work, travel, or other circumstances.  There are no additional costs, and we can accommodate the change on the same day.

Is Virtual Reality Therapy done over the web or in the metaspace?

No to both. Virtual reality therapy can only be conducted in our Los Gatos office due to the equipment requirements. For more information on CR therapy, call our office, and our friendly staff will be happy to assist you.

How long will it take before I feel better?

Everyone responds to therapy differently, but many feel relief right away simply by opening up about their struggles. Taking that first step toward better mental health often sparks hope and optimism. From your very first session, I’ll provide support and share tools to help ease anxiety and stress immediately.

What is therapy like?

Therapy is as unique as the person seeking it. Your experience will be shaped by your individual challenges and goals. Typically, sessions involve exploring current events in your life, delving into relevant personal history, and reflecting on progress or insights gained since your last visit.

Whether you’re tackling a specific issue in the short term or working through deeper patterns and personal growth over time, therapy is a space tailored to your needs. Most often, sessions are scheduled on a weekly basis for consistency and momentum.

How do I get the most out of therapy?

To get the most out of therapy, active participation is key. The real magic happens when you apply what you’ve learned in the sessions to your daily life.  As your therapist, I may suggest exercises to support your progress, such as journaling, reading, observing certain behaviors, or taking steps toward your goals.

Therapy isn’t just about talking; it’s about transformation. It’s for those ready to embrace positive change, explore new perspectives, and take ownership of their journey. If you’re willing to put in the work, therapy can be a powerful tool for creating the life you want.

How confidential are my sessions?

Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the client-therapist relationship. Therapy works best when there’s trust, allowing you to share sensitive topics in a safe, private space.

As your Los Gatos therapist, I will provide you with a written confidentiality agreement, ensuring that any information you share remains confidential and private. This agreement, known as “Informed Consent,” means that as your therapist, I cannot share your information without your written permission, even with other members of your healthcare team.

However, there are exceptions where therapists are legally and ethically required to break confidentiality:

  • If there’s suspected abuse or neglect of a child, adult, or elder, they must report it to authorities.
  • If there’s a serious risk of you harming yourself or others, they are obligated to take necessary action to ensure safety.

Your privacy is taken seriously, but these exceptions are in place to protect everyone involved. Remember, I will go over the specifics when we meet.
